[Replying to self]
Just after I sent this mail I went back to reading the archives, and
running wine with -dll DDRAW=b seems to make it run.

Is there a way to do this automatically? I have
"ddraw" = "builtin, native"
in my ~/.wine/config file, but it doesn't seem to help.
