The style preferred by most people is to quote only
what is necessary to give context to your answer, followed by
the relevant reply. The intent is to get clearer exchanges and
to not waste bandwidth.

If you edit the reply, it's traditional to add some indication that
you removed part of the post (so that third party knows that
you did it, and can search for  the context in the original pos
to see the original author's point of view). The intent is 
probably to avoid some unneeded flamefests.
