Cannot install/run very important application

It seems, the installation is looking for Internet Explorer. There comes IE
5.5
with that program so I tried to install IE. But with that installation, a
messa
ge box
pops up saying "NT4 service pack 3 oder höher muss installiert sein bevor
windows update fortgesetzt werden kann".
