You are more likely to get a useful trace with
--debugmsg +comm,+file

(32 bit comms are done with file operations, and that is how they trace
too.)  +relay never hurts, except of course it makes the trace file
huge.  Oh, just do it.  --debugmsg +comm,+file,+relay
