I think this is moreso a problem in the Mandrake installation. If you choose
"US Layout - International" it seems to cause a few problems (such as having
to press quotation marks twice, etc...)

The "Aussie" keyboard that both of us, in this case, would be using, are the
same as the US Layout. As such, it's an entirely valid solution in this
case.
