Deadlock installing IE6 on wine-20031212?

I attempted to install IE6, following the instructions here:

The only change I made to the default wine-20031212 was to add

"Windows" = "win98"

in the [Version] section of my ~/.wine/config.

It looks, to my thread-ignorant self, that there's some kind of threading
deadlock happening (see console output below, apologies for the stupid
linebreaks).

The dialog pop up, the console output gets as far as the
"fixme:setupapi:SETUPX_CreateStandardLDDs" message, I then click on
the "I Accept" checkbox and then on the "Next" button, and then it
seems to deadlock.
