Wine in this case does not care about forward or backward slashes. So it
is the same as acroread cups-pdf\esf.pdf: a perfect windows file spec.

Actually z:/home/christophe27/cups-pdf/esf.pdf is ok and safer because
the shell tends to eat back-slashes.
