Icewind Dale

I have seen that some people managed to get Icewind Dale run. 
How did you get this? I first tried with WineX, but I got unhandled
exceptions at start, so I tried (with the install dir under
~/.transgaming/c_drive) to run it with Wine. I had to modify some paths
in .wine/config and to take the registry files in .transgaming, but it
then starts up, shows correctly the intro, and then when it gets to the
main menu I see only the buttons, no background, and whenever I click
one of the buttons it either quits with error messages or shows
partially drawn windows (for example for selection of single player,
serial connection ecc)...
Any suggestion? (latest wine form winehq)
