IE6 gives error when trying to save favorite

I have installed IE6 on my Redhat 9 laptop (Frank's Corner,
Method 3).  When I go to a site and try to save it
as a favorite, I get the rather odd message:

A filename cannot contain any of the following characters:


\/:*?"<>


I know this is a standard microsoft convention, and suspect it is for some reason using such a character to create the favorites file, perhaps,  but am not sure what to do.
Can anyone advise?
