[Wine]How to handle a pinned version of wine

Dear friends,
because of my work I need to use Lotus Notes 6.5.x under WINE.

I had to stop ugrading my Debian packages related to wine to version 
20040914 since more recent version make Notes unusable/unstable.

When this happens what is the normal outcome ? Sooner or later one new 
version will work again or I am toast and will need to keep that version 
forever ?
