Try the SetThreadPriority patch, make the wineserver suid root, and see if
it helps. I'll be interested to know if this problem is being caused by
scheduler issues too. You can find the patch here:

After you apply it, rerun autoheader, autoconf, then do make and make
install inside the server/ directory. Then, if you are doing make install
as root, run "chmod +s `which wineserver`".
