On my debian sid I got a similar problem. wine (when run the first time)
AFAIK calls wineprefixcreate. I got an error during this. At first I
thought it was a bug in my way compiling it. I solved this by running
WINEPREFIX=~/.wine wineprefixcreate
During the first run it sometimes ends for me with an unhandled page
fault, but the second ever finished successfully and the wine
configuration was usable afterwards.
