[Wine] font problem? special characters not appearing...

Hi, when I run this bridge learning program in Wine, it looks like this:

when it should look like this:

[Image: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~jamec/cpts.PNG ].

So, the spade/heart/diamond/club symbols are missing. They are special characters in the font though (not bitmaps), and the symbols show up in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contract_bridge so it would seem that the font (Arial, I think) does have the symbols.  Does anyone know how I can have the symbols show up?  I'm running wine-1.0.1 on Ubuntu 8.10 and have the msttcorefonts package installed.
