I'm also using 2.6.25 and 173.14.05 with a Geforce 7800 GT. And as I said before: no problems. I don't believe the kernel or the graphics driver seems to be the problem. my only real difference to you is that I'm running Debian x64... Have you tried renaming your .wine-directory and installing heroes 5 anew?
