I headed over to the nvidia linux forums. It seems that they are having problems with their driver. Atleast in some hardware scenarios. From what i could glean it affects people mostly with dual core systems. Theres some suggestions for people having problems. 

If you are using the latest driver from nvidia and are having stability problems AND you are running some kind of dual core system. Try passing theese arguments to your bootloader "maxcpus=1 idle=poll" without the quotes.

This has been a known issue for some time now so lets hope nvidia finds the problem soon.
