[Wine] Wine and EVE

I know these topics exist, I have tried a multitude of them, but no show. My eve stops each time at the eula. screen is black after the splash screen until the eula tries to visit my screen. (for those not in the know, I just need to click yes to actually play the game)

when running it through terminal, I get the following (... equals a lot of the line above it)

bram at bram-desktop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/CCP/EVE$ wine eve.exe

So far I have:
Re-installed OS (to get a 32 bit kernel)
Reinstalled Wine (8 times as of now, using apt-get)
Compiled wine
Deleted that
run winetricks corefonts
run winetricks dx9
manually added arial.ttf whereever the word Font was found
Edited the registry so all instances of font would also point to /windows/fonts/arial.ttf

I think I have followed some 5 guides to get it working, I have asked a friend, and fiddled about 8 hours with it, to no avail. I cannot ask on the EVE forums, because they have a brilliant forum which requires you not only to wait 72 hours after applying, but also to make a character before you get to ask a question (that, I found out yesterday).

What am I doing wrong? I am no hero in terminal, but I refuse to believe persistence is this futile.
While I am a fan of trying everything in any combination, I am well aware of exponential multiplication of options, and would be looking at some 40 hours dedicated installing (compiling/installing Wine and installing the game mostly).

I run an AMD 2800+ with a nvidea9600, though that cannot work at full specs due to a 1.0 pci-e slot on my k8n4e.

I tried to run this in Ubuntu 9.04, but kubuntu 8.10 and 9.04 would not let me play as well. This Ubuntu install is not important, it was just to try everything until I got it working.
