[Wine] Darwine fails to run applications

I'm a new user of Darwine and installed version Darwine 1.1.7.dmg  from thisismyinter.net.  None of the samples run, however, failing with:

err:module:attach_process_dlls "gdi32.dll" failed to initialize, aborting
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"Z:\\Applications\\Darwine\\Sample WineLib Applications\\notepad.exe" failed, status c0000005

What do I need to do?
