Yahoo Messenger essentially does not work under WINE.  See http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=29

Kopete is, however, is in most ways a superior chat vehicle and is very likely already installed on your machine -- or easily retreived from Repository.  It only shortcoming is that it does not at this time support voice chat.  One will need to go to Ekiga or Skype for that.  Pax, ~rc
