Don't 'kill' things when you think they cause you issues.
I think something like "sudo /etc/init.d/pulseaudio stop" is a better approach.

But here is wine forum so if you have some (sound) problems, you may ask the corresponding forum (ie Ubuntu forum)


However, II could advise you to :
rm -fR ~/.wine
winecfg (go to audio section if needed)

then go to the appropriate appDb page (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=6584)
and follow given instructions.

But please, use the latest wine version as many bugs are fixed between each release.
And if you're a bit patient, wine-1.1.34 should come very soon.
