I have Ubuntu ver. 8.10. I know there is a ver. 9 so mine is a little old. But you are saying I should use the ones on windhq.org even in the face of this warning?

"The packages here are beta packages. This means they will periodically suffer from regressions, and as a result an update may break functionality in Wine. If the latest stable release of Wine (currently Wine 1.0.1) works for you, then you may not want to use these beta packages."

The Beta packages are all that is offered for Ubuntu apparently? Do I have that correct? There must be a current stable version somewhere. Right? My CDROM is out of order for the moment. The sleeve for the Ubuntu disk doesn't say anything about which version of Wine is on it Can anyone tell me?

I should probably wait with all these questions until I install Ubuntu and familiarize myself with it. I may be satisfied with it as it is. After all, it's plenty exciting just to think that there's an option to Windoze XPecorate.
