Wine's uninstaller just runs the app's own uninstaller, which means lots of garbage is left behind in the registry, just like in Windows. Always delete the wineprefix in between tests to ensure a clean one.

forgive my ignorance cause i'm new to linux, however i absolutely love it vs. windows
What is a distro?
I think i did use wine's uninstaller, however media player worked great at first no lag or freeze like the video players with linux but i got no sound, next i found out how to fix the sound and in the process thought to update WMP to 10 or 11. Didn't test it with the sound fixed first, wish i would have. After the update WMP now only opens briefly like 2 secs and closes.

How do i delete the wineprefix like you said?

my sound works fine now, even after reverting to wine 1.2 and then reupdating to 1.3.8.

Thanks for your help
