[Wine] Programs in WINE are lagging

I'm trying to use various programs in Wine, that successfully run on Windows. They seem to work in Ubuntu, using WINE. However, there seems to be lag. Opening Adobe Audition 1.5 is a prime example. It seems to take 3-5 minutes to "think" about doing so. Executions within Audition are also slow, such as copy/paste. Same for SAM automation. There is lag in crossfades, that are not there in Windows operations of the same program. DVD programs  are the same way too. They also lag when opening.

WINE VERSION is current, per Ubuntu updates. 

Ubuntu version 9.04 AND 8.04 BOTH. 

PC: 2.85 Duo core, 4Gig ram.

Can this be overcome somehow?
