[Wine] internet connection

I used wine program loader to install Yahoo Messenger 10.  When I log on to the IM a window opens that says unable to connect because of my Internet connection.  There is a troubleshoot button on this window, but clicking it only makes my PC freeze up. My Ethernet connection to my DSL works for all other applications.
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.
