Wine has its own implementation of dx9. It works for many games, but isn't perfect. For some games you may need to install some native directx dlls; check the AppDB.  It's not recommended that you install all of directx; use winetricks d3dx9 to install just the dlls. http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks
