It actually ran at a playable speed with minimum graphics on an Intel
X3100 (before I got a nVidia card...) For quite a few cards Wine is a
lot slower than Windows, especially for DirectX games. (poor drivers
are the major cause, but DirectX games suffer a bit from emulation
overhead on top of OpenGL)

Also: Install the patches and post some more information about your
hardware. (Especially graphics card its drivers)
