The nearest I could find in the bugs database was this:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15263
which isn't exactly the same issue, this bug is about being able to view the store but not being able to activate the purchase links - I can't view the store at all.

I'm inclined to believe that my problem isn't a bug with wine per se, but more like a problem with my own configuration of some of the programs that run via wine, wine_gecko and what not.

The reason I believe this is because I am able to open a page by running the standalone version of iexplore, but it doesn't work when the iexplore window happens inside the steam program.. it makes me think that Steam's instance of iexplore is looking in a different place for wine_gecko than iexplore uses when run standalone.

When I try to open the store using the iexplore window in steam, I get the same results as when I tried to open iexplore alone when wine_gecko was not configured correctly - a white page. Obviously I understand this might not be the only cause for this result but it seems to follow..

It could also be I don't understand what the heck is going on, I'll keep poking around with the configuration and using the workaround described above (which I found in the bug)
