Wine 1.2-rc2

Ubuntu 9.10

I'm following instructins on tweaking World of Warcraft and wondering if a hardware cursor hack referenced under 'Step 2: Configuring' at http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=17421 would have any adverse effects on other games?

Would I need to edit it to account for the fact I already have Wine 1.2-rc2 installed from the Wine repo? If so where? I'd rather not have two versions of Wine installed if I can avoid it as I still consider myself not too much more than a novice to linux.

It was suggested to make Eve Online run better and not crash when alt-tabbing-out to configure it alone to run with Wine emulating a virtual desktop, allowing directx apps to stop the mouse leaving their window, and allowing the window manager to decorate the windows and control them. Should I do this for all games?

In CS:S even though when I test my mic in the options it plays back fine, online people can hear my voice but they report the quality is very, very poor and it's hard to make out what it is I'm saying. I've tried ALSA, OSS and JACK so far. Pulseaudio is completely removed from my system. Is there anything I can do, and could it just be the mic?
