Have you tried the wrapping pulse audio around the launch command solution? Example: My WoW launcher is: padsp wine "/Games/World of Warcraft/Wow.exe" -opengl the "padsp" at the beginning corrected sound issues for me in WoW with Ubuntu and Xubuntu.
