The file plays fine for me in WMP9, and even when inserted into a Powerpoint, so it's something on your system.

Two things come to mind. One is that winetricks wmp9 sets an override for msvcrt. I'm not sure why, because when I removed it after installing, WMP9 still worked fine (possibly it's needed for something I haven't tried). So if you still have that override set, remove it and see if that fixes the crash. 

The second possibility has to do with libmpg123; there's a known problem with it on 64 bit Ubuntu. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20042
