[Wine] Cannot install directx9 using winetricks

I have a problem since reinstalling my computer with Ubuntu 10.10 x64. Previously I used Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit and things worked nicely, so I am not sure if the problem is the step from 10.04 to 10.10, or the step from 32 to 64 bits.

Now when I try to use winetricks to install directx9 (needed for Fallout3), I get an unhandled page fault when DXSETUP.exe starts to run:

Code:

Executing wine c:\winetrickstmp/DXSETUP.exe
fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls" (6.0.0.0)
fixme:mlang:GetGlobalFontLinkObject
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000012 at address 0x12 (thread 003d), starting debugger...

After I close the standard error dialog window the output continues with:

Code:

Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000012 in 32-bit code (0x00000012).
err:dbghelp:pe_load_dbg_file Couldn't find .DBG file "COMCTL32.dbg" ("-\x1eL\xf7\x10")

Note: command 'wine c:\winetrickstmp/DXSETUP.exe' returned status 5. Aborting.

I have tried this using Wine 1.2.1, 1.3.6 and 1.3.7 (from the standard repositories/ppas) with the same result each time. (Also a few other programs have shown similar problems, but not all)

My primary graphics card is a GeForce GTX 260 with 896 MB memory, which I am using in TwinView mode.
My secondary graphics card is a Geforce 8500 GT 512 MB memory that has its own X screen.

I have 6 GB of main memory, I do not think the memory is bad, I have run a memcheck on it.

CPU is AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+

Please help me with this, I would really like to be able to play Fallout again. Thanks.
