I also noticed on the computer that wasn't patching properly that I had msvcr80.dll installed via winetricks, and it also existed in the WoW folder. I disabled the winetricks version in winecfg and removed msvcr80.dll from ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32, and the 2nd patch today (106MB) downloaded and installed without incident.
