[Wine] Gateway (online game client) - login hangs

Everything appears to install and update, as normal.  Afterward, I can even start the program, but when I attempt to login, it just never finishes.  The "logging in" animation screen never crashes or stops, it simply never moves beyond that point.
No error messages aside from when I try to minimize. (the ol' "encountered a serious problem" message) Minimize causes a fatal crash (process zombifies), but close works.

Using 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04 .. I have tried with clean installs of 1.2.1, 1.3.4 and 1.3.5.  I have tried to override for the included d3dx9_32.dll, but nothing changed.  Emulating a desktop doesn't do much else, but if you draw the desktop smaller than the program window, you get some artifacts at the bottom (a working news ticker and a broken clock)

I haven't tried much else, but I guess that's why I've come to the pros. :D
