wsh56 would be the right winetricks verb. Disappointing that didn't help. Are you sure it installed windows script host? Maybe you're still using builtin wscript. I wish I had time to try running visual basic scripts in wine with wsh56, but I'm kind of busy. Maybe somebody else can give it a shot.
