[Wine] Desktop Notifications/popups = steam apps hard freeze?

I'm not sure if this is a problem resulting from my PlayOnLinux app for handling the wine based applications. However whenever I get a popup or notification from my Ubuntu desktop it causes the Steam application to hard freeze, graphically only though. 
Seeing as I then have to hit '`' and then quit (I have only valve based games)

I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced this problem and has a possible fix for it?

(steam community is disabled, games run great until a popup from skype/mediaplayer/pidgin/anything ruins it beyond exiting wine altogether)
