Thanks for all your comments. I feel suitably chastised for not reading the Linux manual first. I was looking for the easiest path to migrate slowly away from M$, but I can see now that Wine doesn't really make it any easier, indeed it gives me more things to worry about - I suppose that should have been obvious before I started.
