At the moment we aren't much interested in PulseAudio. We have had different
sound drivers in Wine and they end up being half baked. It took years to get
our current oss and alsa drivers sort of working and even those aren't that
great yet. We can't use another audio backend.

Especially games use DirectSound which means direct soundcard access. Right now
the current audio situation (partly due to bad sound drivers) is already very
bad and we have bad audio quality and latency. An additional layer in between
will make it worse.

Pulseaudio should deliver a good replacement for dmix and let Wine and other
apps keep Alsa. Apps like Quake4 and Unreal Tournament won't get rewritten to
use pulseaudio.
