I disabled PPE in the MP2 options completly and the problem remains.
- the console messages are still generated (***)
- when a window comes into FOV performance goes "out the window" *g*
- cutscenes are also affected by the slowdown

(***) Seems like the messages are not generated every frame, still trying to
figure out what triggers them. I could see new ones appearing during the
cutscenes. I also encountered these ones:
err:d3d_surface:IWineD3DSurfaceImpl_LoadLocation Reading back render target but
SFLAG_INDRAWABLE not set
