I don't advocate dumbing down the list, either.

There's a difference between "treating newbies with respect"
and "dumbing down the list".  Observe:

"RTFM.  This is answered in the wine manpage."
vs.
"See answer #1 in http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ "

The first approach is hostile; the second helpful and respectful.
And the respectful, helpful one is shorter!
