I can confirm this as well. Wine version 0.9.49.  Gutsy Installed.  My
experience is this:

My friends are getting the messages.  On occasion, I can see what I type and
have a normal conversation with my friend.  My notifications pop up and
everything, then it stops working suddenly.  If I wait long enough, the
messages start popping up randomly.  I can also confirm that the terminal does
not give any error messages.  Also, turning compiz on or off has no effect on
the problem.
