Great! I tried the XV-Editor with wine 1.11 today and it worked flawlessly! 
That includes both read and write to the unit. 

This was with the following settings: set Alsa in winecfg, running Ubuntu
Intrepid, through standard midi cables.  I did't try any other configs.

So far it looks "Gold" to me, but it's hard to know for sure since I never used
this much with Windows.
