You're not the only one. I'm experiencing this, too. At a first glance I
thought it was Direct3D related. But depending on kernel upgrades and/or wine
upgrades it also refused to start in OpenGL mode. So this seems to be pretty
random. But what I can watch is that independent of Direct3D/OpenGL it starts
on about 1 of 100 tries to start it without segfault/segill.

It seems to be a timing issue and thus hard to debug.

At least it seems a little different than the OR. It is probably hard to
clearly distinguish the different bugs. But as far as I see this the OR was
about startup crashes - not in-game crashes. So we should stuck to the start-up
crashes here.
