Working fine here with driver 180.18 and 8800GTS on x86_64.

Could you try to remove all unneeded code from nehe lesson 1 so that only the
part which breaks the hole thing is in.

You've always spoken only from 3D apps under wine. Could you run winecfg more
than one time without the error?
