[Bug 23512] DDO - Silent crash at login

No luck on the regression test - using "make -k" allows the build to continue,
but returns "Target not remade because of errors".  If there are any other
suggestions I'm happy to try them, but I'm at the limit of my knowledge on how
to proceed.

However, testing for the bug in 1.3.2 today threw up a backtrace after the
crash, which hasn't happened before.  I've attached it above.
