I've seen the pages you guys mentioned but those don't cover patching and
building on Debian.  I brought it up here b/c I figured it was a documentation
defect.  The Debian-specific docs go as far as configuring apt/sources.list and
getting the keys, but the docs stop there, and the Debian package is apparently
missing the patching script.  Are Debian users expected to abandon the "debian
way" at some point in the process?  I'll figure it out, but a debian developer
might want to cover building the debian way.

Regarding the English readme -- I see why I missed it.  The ".gz" lines up with
the language tags on the other files, so when quickly reading down the list it
looks like a language abbreviated as "gz".  Perhaps that file should have a
".en.gz" extension.
