Two font problems

You need to get client side font rendering working.  Currently you're
defaulting back to server side X11 fonts that will appear to the app
as if they are device fonts.  To get client side rendering working you
need a working freetype config and some TrueType fonts in a directory
listed in the [Fontdirs] section of the config file.

A --debugmsg +font trace should tell you where things are going wrong.
