Thats strange. Have you tried both patches (wine + X) in
http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-patches/2004/04/0378.html ?

I have tried the patch with a low valued keyboard and two IBM keyboards (one 
old and one new).  In all keyboards the referred \ continues to work 
correctilly and the delete problem is solved.

Thanks for trying the patch. For reference, the output from showkey and xev 
when I press the \ key is:

One more thing: Could you comment on the fact that wine thinks that there are 
two types of abnt2 keyboard? One with a Alt-Gr key and one without. To the 
best of my knowledge all abnt2 keyboards have a Alt-Gr key.
