i know i could tell users to have their udev configuration generate backwards 
compatible symlinks and this issue would be "fixed" magically, but 
considering /dev/input/js is the new standard, it makes sense to me to 
support it, especially since this way things will generally "just work" ... 
other major source projects like libsdl had no qualms 
supporting /dev/input/js as well as /dev/js
