Ubuntu no longer works correctly without pulseaudio

I'm using Jaunty 64-bit.

Removing the pulse packages and adding my user to the audio group
seems to work fine*, with plain ALSA goodness.
*By work fine, I mean I can rock out to Pandora while playing
Morrowind, and winetest is again passing for me.
