You can find the current state of our d3dx libraries in the Wine sourcecode, 
the d3dx9 library is implemented in dlls/d3dx9_36/, and the other d3dx9 
libraries forward to this one. I suggest to have a look at it, finding an area 
that needs additional work on your own demonstrates that you can find your way 
around in the code.

I must caution though that a number of people have voiced interest in d3dx9-
related work already on this list, so the competition for this kind of work is 
pretty big.
