@ doh123: I actually solved the problem, tracking it down to that very thing. I forgot the sudo on the make install command for wine. I redid the make install, and it's working now, however, the two apps I've tried both failed to work after installation. One game has sound but no video, and the other reported some kind of "MCI" error. I don't know if possibly the errors resulted from not simply starting over from scratch?
